A latent profile analysis of trait emotional intelligence to identify beneficial and risk profiles in well-being and job performance: a study among J…
2016
Trait emotional intelligence (EI) is a noteworthy psychological resource in nursing. However, its effects on well-being and job performance are inconsistent. Thus, we explored the latent beneficial and risk profiles of trait EI among 461 Japanese eldercare nurses. Latent profile analysis revealed six latent profiles. In addition, multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA) showed that the profile with the highest overall scores on the trait EI dimensions was associated with the most beneficial outcomes (better well-being, higher job performance). In contrast, the profiles with lower overall scores on the trait EI dimensions showed negative outcomes. Moreover, a disproportional profile, ch…

Quality of Life and Job Loss during the COVID-19 Pandemic: Mediation by Hopelessness and Moderation by Trait Emotional Intelligence
2022
This study contributes to the knowledge on the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic by examining a moderated mediation model in which the impact of job loss over quality of life (QoL) is mediated by hopelessness and moderated by trait emotional intelligence (trait EI). Data were collected from a large nationally representative Italian sample of adult workers (N = 1610), who completed a series of anonymous online questionnaires. Total, direct and indirect effects were estimated through bootstrapped mediated moderation analyses providing 95% bias corrected bootstrap confidence intervals. After controlling for the effects of gender and age range, job loss was found to be negatively associated with…
Hopelessness and burnout in Italian healthcare workers during COVID-19 pandemic: the mediating role of trait emotional intelligence
2023
Objective: The study aims to assess the impact of COVID-19 on healthcare workers’ work-related stress during the first wave of the pandemic in Italy. The main objective is to investigate the existence of a positive correlation between hopelessness and burnout, assuming that burnout may be a riskfactor for the development of hopelessness, and to analyze the role thattrait Emotional Intelligence (TEI) and changes in workload could have in this relationship. Furthermore, evaluate any significant differences in burnoutand hopelessness levels in the function of some demographic variables, such as gender, professional profiles, and different working zones of Italy, tobetter understand how the di…
Trait emotional intelligence, self-reported affect, and salivary alpha-amylase on working days and a non-working day
2017
his study examined the relationship between trait emotional intelligence (EI) and variation in psychological (positive affect: PA, negative affect: NA) and psychophysiological (salivary alpha-amylase: sAA) indicators among Japanese employees over 3 consecutive days (working day 1, non-working day, working day 2). The analyses revealed that higher trait EI was associated across the days with higher PA, but not with NA. Moreover, diurnal sAA levels were lower in the high trait EI group than in the low trait EI group on the intervening non-working day, and this difference between the EI groups continued to show a tendency to significance on working day 2. The results indicate that higher EI ma…
Emotional intelligence in Greek teacher education : Findings from a short intervention
2021
AbstractEmotional intelligence (EI) is widely known to be crucial for professional development in education, and it is a curricular component of Greek teacher education. Still, there is little information available on student teachers’ EI. The aim of this study was to explore whether student teachers’ trait EI can be developed through a two-week, EI-focused intervention. The study followed a quasi-experimental design with a mixed method approach, using the Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire-Short Form (Greek version) (N = 42) and reflective emotion diaries (N = 19). The participants were third-year undergraduate students studying primary education and teaching at the University of C…
Associations of Trait Emotional Intelligence with Social Support, Work Engagement, and Creativity in Japanese Eldercare Nurses
2017
Work-related resources can be positive antecedents of employee work engagement (WE) and creativity. Although trait emotional intelligence (EI) and social support may be crucial resources in nursing, their relationships with WE and creativity remain unclear. Hence, with special focus on the role of trait EI, we examined this relationship by applying the job demands-resources (JD-R) model. The participants were 489 eldercare nurses in Japan (female: n = 401; male: n = 88; age = 39.5 ± 11.0 years). The results showed positive associations between EI and the other studied variables. Furthermore, moderated mediation analyses revealed that higher trait EI enhanced the positive association among t…
EXPLORING THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TRAIT EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE, ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION ON SCHOLASTIC COMPETENCE IN PRIMARY SCHOOL CHILDREN
2022
The construct of Emotional Intelligence (EI) has been studied as a potential predictor of a good physical and psychological health. Among the different possible EI formulations, Trait EI can act as an important predictor for the good development of psychological wellbeing and social interaction during childhood, and individual differences in trait EI can be relevant for a positive adaptation, emotional competence, socio- emotional behavior and scholastic results within the school context. The present pilot study is a cross-sectional design that involved 150 children aged 8-10 years from several primary schools located in Sicily. This study is part of a larger research project and data colle…
Trait emotional intelligence and its associations with subjective and physiological well-being
2018
The present thesis examined the association between trait emotional intelligence (EI) and well-being (subjective well-being [SWB] and physiological well-being) among Japanese participants (eldercare nurses and undergraduate university students). This research had four primary goals: First, to identify profiles of trait EI and to investigate their association with SWB (Study I); second, to examine the role of trait EI in the process of SWB (Study II); third, to investigate the association of trait EI with psychological state and physiological well-being in a laboratory-based stress induction condition (Study III); and fourth, to investigate the association of trait EI with affect and physiol…
